Neuroengineer Trained Rats to Play Doom with a Custom VR RigThis definitely gives new meaning to rat race.Viktor Toth, neuroengineer, trains rats to play Doom. In a Medium article, Toth explains how he's been training three rodents placed on top of a polystyrene ball tracked with motion sensors. The mice are suspended by harnesses while they ‘journey’ through the mazes of Doom II, presented before them on a PC monitor.Viktor teaches the rats by way of positive reinforcement, feeding them through a tube of sugary water when they’re doing the right thing. Not only walking through the maps, the rats also learn to shoot up monsters. To do this, Viktor instructs them by activating the push-pull solenoid lifting the animals upwards, causing the head of the actuator to touch the button (effectively shooting down the monster), and finally rewarding the little critters with sugar water to reinforce the behavior.#VirtualReality #VR #Doom #rat #neuroengineer #ViktorToth
The Oculus Quest Gets A Free UpgradeThe Oculus Quest 2 has been out since October, and it is a great entry into the the exciting new world of VR. But for what seems like the first time ever, a tech product gets upgraded with no change in cost. Starting today, the Oculus Quest 2 base model gets double the storage, from 64 to 128 gigabytes. It seems that Facebook is trying to entice more users to get into the standalone headset. They could have just created a mid-tier instead of the free upgrade, but they may not want to create confusion in the market with three seemingly identical models being one hundred dollars apart. The Quest has been facing issues recently, with facial interfaces needing to be replaced and it still requiring Facebook accounts. This is finally good news for Quest fans, as new users can get even more games for their headsets.Image credit: Facebook#oculus #quest2 #oculusquest2 #facebook #upgrade #vr #videogame
