The Floodgates Are Open: Third Tetris Crash

Last week, we told you about Blue Scuti becoming the first person to crash NES Tetris. Since then, we've discovered that his real name is Willis Gibson. We've also seen two other gamers match his accomplishment, after 34 years of assuming no one could do it. On Wednesday, fractal161 crashed Tetris on level 155. It happens at 39 minutes into the video below, or 51 minutes into the livestream.

Only eight hours later, professional gamer and world record player P1xel Andy became the third person to crash Tetris. It happens 39 minutes into this video.

Why did this suddenly happen three times, after 34 years of play? One theory is that it's like the four-minute mile. No one knew it was possible until Roger Bannister did it, and then elite runners worked extra hard to reach that milestone. You can imagine every elite Tetris player in the world playing furiously after Blue Scuti's crash. Another factor, as elaborated by gamesradar, is the research and sharing of information between gamers that showed the most determined players how to go for it. Next up: a competition to determine the most efficient way to reach the end of Tetris.
