Well, because the developers don’t have a kit for the newest console. Minecraft has been a staple title for most modern consoles out there in the market and has been raking in quite a number of profits for it as well.
Initially starting out for the PC, the classic video game title has now been in multiple consoles over the years, such as the Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and the PlayStation 5 (PS5)’s predecessor, the PlayStation 4 (PS4).
As part of his testimony in the Federal Trade Commission vs Microsoft court battle, Xbox boss Phil Spencer revealed that the reason Microsoft has yet to be ported to the PS5 is that Sony was "reluctant" to send the team a PS5 dev kit.
“Sony was reluctant to send us development kits for the PlayStation 5 at the same time they were sending them to other developers,” Spencer explained. “which put us at a disadvantage relative to other developers. I think Sony could have sent the development kits to Microsoft just as easily as they sent them to any other publisher.”
