Oh my, look how the tables have turned!
If you’re looking for a game that lets you be the villain of the story without a weird plot point where you’re actually the good guy all along, well this game might be just up your alley. Indie RPG Monsters Domain allows players to be the dungeon master– control monsters and fight off heroes that are foolish enough to enter your domain.
Developed by G-DEVS, the title is more than just letting you take shots are heroes in shiny armor and blessed weapons. It does involve a bit of management as well. The game encourages players to build and upgrade their forces of evil, and get them the best weaponry and skills so that they can fight against the annoyingly persistent forces of good. "You can play any monster from your army and give them specific orders to follow," says the game's Steam page. "Every killed hero makes them stronger and gives you an opportunity to equip them better or develop new skills or monstrosities. You can reanimate fallen intruders or collect pieces of your slain warriors and research new ways to use it."
For those interested in this premise (we sure are), the developers have released Monsters Domain: Prologue, a demo version that lets players check out the mechanics of their game. Reviews so far are mostly positive, too. "Def potential, have had fun with what I've done so far," said one reviewer, adding that it "will need polishing, but on the whole, it's off to a good start."
Monster’s Domain is still in development and is targeting a Q3 2023 launch.
