Nintendo's First Headquarters Turned into a Hotel

Gamers, the next time you stop by Kyoto, you might want to take a look at this hotel with a special history behind it. A new hotel to be named Marufukuro is being opened in the building that was formerly headquarters of the gaming giant Nintendo. The premises was the location where Nintendo was founded by Fusajiro Yamauchi in 1889, then called Nintendo Koppai. The interior design will reportedly retain many of the details of the building during its heyday as Nintendo’s HQ, which will sure to thrill fans.

The name Marufukuro itself is derived from Marufuku, the distribution company that Yamauchi established to keep up with Nintendo’s rapid growth. The ‘ro’ at the end is used to indicate a stately mansion.

The hotel is set to open April 1, containing a total of 18 rooms including seven suites.
